Great PickupTrucks.com post on how increased demand for the Ranger compact pickup saw it outsell the Mustang and nine other popular vehicles in April. Yes indeed Ford, buy a clue and send us the next gen truck with a diesel.

I see a lot of Fleet Rangers on transport trucks all the time.

I bet ford is hoping a lot of them move to the transit van as a replacement. Why does Orkin need a pick up?

I think the Transit Connect is great other than the old drivetrain. Why is there an old 4 speed in there?! Hopefully the powertain gets updated soon since it is a great alternative for companines that need volume capacity over weight capacity.

Maybe they should buy Hyundai motors for it's 200hp and 190 ish in torque 2.4L motor and six speed auto?! Or their new 2.0T

Pending your state and department of agriculture rules you would need a sealed partition due to the chemicals. I have checked out a Transit Connect and kinda liked it but it really need a 5th gear.

Guys - they were matching Toyota incentives - yeah it probably helped, but there were a bunch of manufacturers holding similar incentives, and Ford still rose well.

Do NOT take any data in isolation of the bigger global picture. Ford is doing well not only because of incentives but of delivering product that in demand for the price point. Also, lets not forget that Toyota had a higher fleet sale figure that month (as did Ford in March) - so that skews the numbers as well.

Ford is on the rise and putting out some of the best cars and trucks on the road. If ford would only put a 4 banger back in the Ranger 4x4, and the F150 is to big to be practical as a daily driver. That new F100 sounded great to me, but they have scrapped it. I would love to see 1 foot added to the Sport Trac bed, and a few mpg..

I think there is a market for a Ranger sized truck if the MPG improves with both an inline 4 and V6. lots of businesses use them for small deliveries and even a chassis cab version would be smart but they need to develop a new chassis and drivetrains that are modern in 2010 terms not 1995 terms.

Payload of 1800-2200 lbs maybe two bed sizes with 4 full doors and better motors and they'll have a winner for consumers and businesses. I bet they could sell around 150-180k of these models a year. Most automakers would consider this sales volume a success.

If I had any control at Ford this is what would happen. I would keep the 2x4 reg.cab pretty much as is with the 2.3L, maybe offer a diesel and or a slightly larger 4 banger 4x4 reg cab 7' bed. Scrap the 4.0L gas hog and the king cab. Offer a longer bed Sport Trac with a diesel or ecoboost or a power plant they already have the 4.6L 3 valve and 6 speed which should push the mpg to 23 or 24 mpg and call it the F100 . I think the currently offered 4.6L is a 2 valve? I think my ideas could be done in a very cost effective way. If Ford would only listen..
