Register to stop seeing this ad! That could explain some of Mahindra lack of hurry to enter the US market. They will be the "king" of the road for 2012, sharing the market with Toyota and Frontier.Interesting writting... Cheers David "GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz spoke to journalists this morning in Los Angeles, where he highlighted GM's strong product portfolio, skipping any mention of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. We asked him what the future held for these small pickups. It doesn't sound promising. "It's uncertain at this point," Lutz said. "They may well [go away]." GM hasn't officially announced whether the Colorado and Canyon will be refreshed, replaced or jettisoned. Last year, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said it was GM's plan to end production at the Shreveport plant where the twin trucks are produced by 2012. Ford has said production of its Ranger compact pickup will end by 2011, and Chrysler has said the Dodge Dakota will end production next year, though the Dakota is likely to be replaced by a small unibody pickup. |

none of that is new news but you are right, they won't really be competing with anyone. Given those market conditions they have a higher likelihood of success but they need to introduce a solid, good product not hurried junk.

None of them struck me as really good vehicles. There is more than enough bad press on those models that even if they offered a turbo diesel in them, I probably wouldn't buy them.
I was in my friends newer dakota last year and the thing was so full of electrical gremlins it was comical and sad. I owned a dakota years ago (92 I think?) and by 70k miles the interior was pretty much useless. Non functioning gauges, dash lights, radio, door locks and door release. Doesn't seem like that's changed much. As far as the GM's you listed, they get more bad press than Obama at a NRA convention. |

Yep. Said it before. All of the manufacturers have killed the small/mid-size truck market themselves by making trucks that really aren’t that much smaller than a full-size, and are nearly the same price in some cases. If you only have to spend another grand to get a full-size then why not.
One of these manufacturers needs to grow a pair and make something that really stands out and is truly unique (hey, that’s what Mahindra is doing). They need to go back to the drawing board and create a small truck people want at a price point that doesn’t pirate sales from their full-size stuff. The rumors are very heavily leaning toward a unitized small pickup from Dodge. Nissan has also stated that they plan to design a new small pickup to break away from the mid-size market. Maybe one of these two will do something really cool. Anyone remember the Dodge M80 concept? Google it. I wanted that thing so badly at the time. Now is the time to build it!

Hey American Truck Makers.
Give me a Diesel Pickup that doesn't leave all the cars behind you wondering if its safe to drive through that black cloud. No reason those things should be on the road driving empty with one person when we can't get 80% of the Clean Diesel cars in the US that they have in Europe. |
