Default Amarok

This truck will kill the TR40 if it comes to the US on looks, the stick, larger fuel tank, and it's Basic model version. With three trim levels to cater to all the potential buyers' desires, anyone looking for a daily driver truck that does it all will line up at VW's door. Mahindra's only recourse is to price the TR40 25% less than the Amarok and hope looks count for less than price in the buyers' mind.

Default pricing

Just got off the phone with the internet sales guy from the sarasota sales place. He said "they will be the first to have and sell the tr20/40". I asked him about training mechanics and how much parts stock they have - considering he said they expect to start selling them in feb (less than two months away). There has been no training at all. They have NO parts at all!!! He said it was all going to happen at once. This whole Mahindra/Global thing is really minor league. That dealership wants a 2000 deposit on a truck they have never seen, not been trained on and can't tell you what it will cost. (He said the tr40 delux should come in around 20k). I was so hoping this truck would be promoted and supported like our korean friends did their product. You know they say "you get what you pay for". Every day I hear things that make me less confident. Have you noticed how quiet both M&M and Global have been. They must be monitoring this forum and you would think they would put something out to let us potential buyers know something - anything. And now the VW diesel truck - ain't life grand!!!!!

Default Form follows function

I think the Mahindra design has more distinct character than beauty. Kind of Helen Hunt vs. Rene Russo- nothing wrong with either of them, but one is more of a timeless beauty, the other has a cute face. Okay, bad comparison to use good looking women to describe trucks, but the one is more distinctive than the other, and that isn't necessarily a better thing. French vanilla ice cream vs. raw cookie dough ice cream? A Mexican hairless vs. a Golden Retriever? I don't think the Mahindra styling would win any awards, but it will get noticed. To me the Amarok is made from all the styles I've seen before, and has no individuality. I'd like a chance to drive either of them, though.

Default Have to see both

Having driven a VW Jetta TDI diesel, I know this vehicle will be competition. I agree with everybody else that VW knows how to make diesels and it depends on price. If both are similar, I would pay a minimum of $3000, and more if Mahindra does not offer a better warranty like Hyndai, for the security of buying from a known brand. And I expect the VW have a nicer ride.
