I saw the title of the post and thought for a brief moment: "okay, this is good enough to make me buy it", then I read on and it was "oh, yeah. Not happening." Now I remember, nobody here wants a small diesel pickup; if you look at the sales numbers for the last ten years, they haven't sold a single one in this country- ergo, why would they offer one now?

Ford is really making a horrible business decision in not offering the new Ranger here . Currently the Ranger is the 2nd best selling small truck and Ford is afraid it will take away from the F150 sales . It shouldn't matter it's still a Ford sale ? To me its like throwing business away to a competitor .. Those people who want a Ranger size truck are going to be lost to Fords competitors . Ford should have kept the Sports Trac and put the new 3.7 in it, I believe that could have been a perfect match .

I'm betting they know what they're doing...

In some of the areas I work in I only have a few customers but I still make money there . If I stopped working these areas someone else would make that money . I would almost bet that 10% or less of Ranger owners will move up to the f150 , most will move on to Toyota and Nissan . I just drove a 2012 Tacoma , not much change to the looks but Toyota seems to have tweeked just about everything . Smoother quieter ride and a little better mpg .

Yeah, but if it costs more money to re-vamp the product to keep those sales than those sales bring in that would be a poor decision wouldn't it?

Agree. And it probably costs what, $300 million or more to redesign and retool for a US-only vehicle with what is really a limited market. Between those costs, and the world-Ranger available probably with few changes needed for US market if it was needed, the ROI probably doesn't exist.
Damn shame of course, but as Ford has stated, they aren't as heavily into trucks as they used to be (and the ones they have are runaway hits...)

As far as I'm concerned it would be as simple as dropping the new 3.7 in it
