Hopefully using MB engine tech they can get a 50 state compliant diesel up and goign that is more potent that the mHawk would have been.

From what I gather, the quality of the Ssangyong products may be higher than those that Mahindra has been able to produce, so this is a good thing if any of their vehicles ever make it to this country (and I bet they're still planning on it). That will mean yet a different vehicle than any they are currently making, so who knows when they can put it all together, and what it will be, but it keeps things interesting.

Thumbs down

I'm afraid that if/when M&M DO get a vehicle available on these shores that they will just kowtow to the EPA and CARB, and the truck will have a POS 15MPG gasoline V6 under the hood just like the rest of the lame ass sheepmobiles out there, and be so "Americanized" that NOBODY will want to buy it.

It reads like m&m were well aware of their mhawk diesel being underpowered. At the time, they were still touting all their bs about the mpg, power, towing etc.No wonder they picked up that Korean company.......they need real diesels,LOL.

So I guess all the speculation that IH would/might supply them w/ actual engines was just that. They had to turn to a failing Korean concern licencing MB technology to bail them out...
fascinating.

Yeah Pete......funny how that worked out.BTW,if my memory is correct,m&m bought that Korean company before they got epa certification for the vaporware trucks destined for our shores.

I think they had their eyes on the company for all of their other markets. We are jaded to think our [I]maybe[I] 50,000-70,000 trucks they'd have sold here would have been significant to their business model. They were obviously planning for their home market and other markets they already serve. If they get tech that would make their products competitive enough to bring to the US that is just gravy for them.

True, however the compact pickup truck in this country is gone after this year if I'm not mistaken.Ranger=final year for the states,Nissan=?,Dodge dakota=gone after this year........maybe,I think Toyota is still here and if so,going strong,GM=Canyon/Colorado=gone after this year.....so far,(it may change). Not much in choices compared to the rest of the world.Gas and fuel prices will probably help in getting small trucks back, but maybe not with diesels like we all want. And all the "global" small trucks for whatever reason don't make it to our shores....that is sooo insane
