Register to stop seeing this ad!

you do have to at least have a long bed and that's a couple of hundred.

Ok now I am building it and I see what you are referring to. It is adding in everything needed for the max towing and payload packages to the very base model for $4650. I am sorry to have doubed you. It looks like in any configuration on an xl is only available with the max towing packages. Not what I would want either.

I wonder if the dealers can actually order the ecoboost without the other packages, Ford has said this is possible (still has to be a long bed if it is a regular cab).

If you select the XLT model you can get it for only $1750 above the regular 3.7 V6. This would be the model I would personally choose so I never tried to build an XL.

Some of Ford's "mandatory" packages is why I bought a new chevy.I am not brand loyal at all.As long as it's ford/dodge/chevy I'll look and compare.

I see what your saying now, it does get cheaper as you move up in models. But I don't need an overly expensive truck for a work truck that will be hauling 200 to an occasional 1000 ponds of chemical .

I still think an XL can be ordered without the max towing packages. Ford has said as much so I expect to see a few of them around on dealer lots, specifically in the fleet section.
