Seems like just when I absolutely and finally give up on them ever showing up, here comes some teeny ray of a hope. Nobody mentioned settling in arbitration or waiting for their day in court, I guess when they're good and ready it will all be fixed . . . dealing with M&M must be like trying to push rope.

![]() At least it is a shred of evidence into what is going on. It does make some sense for them to put plans on hold with taking over Ssangyong. That entity actually provided Phoenix Motors with the truck (minus drivetrain) that was converted into a BEV. Ssangyong must have already had to pass at least vehicle saftey concerns and there might be some good knowledge there. I ultimately think they are goign to hold off until they have a finished global truck based on the updated platform to roll out with the drivetrain that was recently certified. They'd stand a better chance of selling a more modern looking (inside and out) truck than the current TR's. |

I have alluded to Ssangyong being a significant piece of the US Mahindra puzzle recently here on the forum. It’s pretty interesting that this piece came out today. Is it 100% credible? Probably not. However, I’ll take it as a positive sign.
I believe the Ssangyong takeover is a key to several mysteries beyond the recent increase in demand on finances and management manpower (Mahindra is good at multitasking). I’m working on a post which will explain my thoughts more. Howam00, I hope that you are right about the next gen TR. The W201 has definitely been designed with the US in mind too. I beleive that anyone who has dismissed Mahindra ever arriving in the US will eventually be disappointed.

Maybe with luck,I'll be disappointed. But I have to ask,why that merger would effect what was supposed to happen with GV and our little trucks? It would appear to have been contrived from the start, the tussle with GV,the endless delays and so on.What will the court rule?Would GV,should they win still be responsible for then bringing in the "new and improved" (next gen) models? No mention was made in the article about how or where the vehicles will be sold and by whom.

So 2013-2015 for the W201/Ssangyong/Mahindra/Whatever?????? I guess I'll go get one of the Rangers and just overload it like the rest of the world does. Only two things able to survive nuclear fallout-cockroaches and the Ranger. Besides if Mahindra-SSangyong ever do show up, the Ranger does has great resale value.....Thanks for all the posts and info guys. It's a great forum because of the members, and well, Andy!

So here's the text from a recent news report:
"Indian vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra plans to assemble and sell two Ssangyong SUV models in India, starting in 2011. "The two models, Rexton and Korando, will likely be assembled at our facility in Chakan (in Maharashtra state)," Dow Jones Newswires quotes Pawan Goenka, Mahindra's president for automotive and farm equipment sectors, as saying in an interview. Mahindra signed the final agreement to acquire South Korean vehicle manufacturer Ssangyong Motor on 23 November. Under the deal, the Indian company acquired 70% of Ssangyong for US$463.6m. Mahindra operates a joint venture with US-based commercial vehicle manufacturer Navistar International as well. Goenka added that this JV will launch two new trucks in the first quarter of 2011." AutomotiveWorld.com Published on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 It sounds like Mahindra has a full plate and is announcing their short term plans, which don't include sending any trucks here. |
