I'm not sure how this will effect us as the new plant in India will not obviate the "chicken tax".John really did stick his neck out on this. But,maybe his lawyers know something in regards to the lawsuit too that will overcome the whole mess.I certainly hope so......

So they are planning ahead to the time when the parts shortages are solved. As I recall, the Mahindra pickup was largely designed by the parts suppliers- that is, each part was put out for bid to design and provide the parts. It kind of looks like that strategy may have backfired on Mahindra since they are locked in to certain suppliers and they are losing sales because they can't meet the demand for vehicles. Partnership in business doesn't seem to carry the weight in India that it does in other parts of the world. Reading one of the Indian forums about pickup trucks in India it sounds like the Tata Xenon is considered to be superior in many ways to the Mahindra. Maybe Tata can get their truck here first?

I know that the Tata Xenon is far more contemporary (conventional?) from an appearance standpoint than the Mahindra TRs.

I think it could sell quite well on these shores, IF it were properly distributed and promoted.

While I agree with you, and think this would go over better with NA buyers than Mahindra, Tata would have a LOT of engineering to do to meet NA standards. Right now these things have no airbags, no ABS, so skid or rollover control. The effort would be sizeable to homolgate it for NA distribution.
