Indeed we are more then ready for a compact/midsize diesel pickup.fact is that has been a "want" for a large number of us for years......and still the market has none for sale here.As for the m&m/GV debacle,it will play out starting today, and we might just get a truck to test drive soon.As for m&m's transparent 'weaseling",hopefully a judge will bitch slap em and make them pony up the damn vehicles.....maybe in my lifetime.

I have no doubt that these will sell to some degree and I think largely small businesses will use them for delivery and light duty uses. I think commercial is where they will sell a lot of these.

I bet a lot of businesses are watching the outcome of this with fingers crossed.

they need to sell this as a chassis cab like they do in Oz

Go look at what a thrashed-out 1980s diesel Jap truck sells for on Craigslist or eBay! I'd love to get my hands on, say, an old Isuzu P'up or Nissan 720, But I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay $4500 for something that looks like it's worth about $650.

Diamler-Chrysler had expected to sell about 5000 Jeep Liberty CRDs during the 2005-06 model years. The ended up selling over 11,000! Used Cummins 4BTs sell for a premium.

I too see a HUGE potential for fleet sales with these trucks. I hope Mahindra/GV/Whoever is not overlooking that aspect.

Daimler Chrysler expected sales of 18k units for a two year production run. They exceeded that on the first year alone. They never expected the libby crd,or the more expensive Grand Cherokee crd to sell faster then they could produce them.

Fiat Chrysler is well aware of the "hidden" demand for diesels in this country....why they don't exploit that is beyond me.Actually, all of the manufacturers are well aware of the want for diesels here in the usa.Even Subaru has a diesel out in Europe and are "thinking" of bringing it it here.Aside from the normal worries about suby bringing over their diesel,it's only available with a standard tranny....because their auto won't take the torque as it stands now.

Its all about the truck
Things we are still waiting for but won't know until the arbitration is over.

Cost, it could cost less without GV
MPG, Need to get those final numbers, I have seen to many great future claims that didn't come true
Warranty, will this truck have a warranty to back up the durability claims, and over come the fear of first adopters who don't want to pay to be guinea pigs

Big business goes throught stuff like arbitration all the time but it's the product that will tell the tale in the long run. All I know this is not going to affect just U.S.A. However Mahindra enters the U.S.A.will affect other countries opinions on a world wide scale,as so it should. Anyways Canada sits and waits and hopes they get their rears in gear lol.

Toxic.

Where did you get the
"Daimler Chrysler expected sales of 18k units for a two year production run. They exceeded that on the first year alone." ???

They actually expected to sell 5k in the US and ended up selling 14k and they said they were out of their allotment of engines. This is in spite of little to no advertising.

The Grand Cherokee was kind of a flop for two reasons. (1) the split between MB and C and (2) They were only put in top of the line modles that were too expensive for the "average Joe" They were a 2007 model year and some remained unsold for 2 years and were eventualy sharply discounted.

There are rumors that "thngs are in the works" at Fiat/Chrysler

I have one of the 14k! Remember it was a "marketing experiment" and never a serious product. Now their orphfans with expensive and hard to get parts. Many are at 100k where the timing belt needs replaced and since the water pump is driven by the TB it should be replaced too. They have been on backorder with a unknown delivery date.

The 18k units was what D-C had said in their two year projection.I had one of the 18k ;}> My wife wanted the 06 libby ltd crd so I bought her one.I loved the engine/trans combo but as a 4x4 it sucked bad. There was nothing "trail rated" about it.

As far as parts go,you do know that the diesel wrangler made here in the USA is still using the VM Motori 2.8L engine......right? Of course it's made to be sold in Europe but I don't understand why the parts shortage.By federal law there should be replacement parts available for years because it was still a production vehicle/engine.

I bet the costs could fall without a middle man in there. I am sure it would help sales volume too

MPG is still anyone's guess

Warranty was confirmed as 48 months 60k miles bumper to bumper.
