You know, this whole mess kind of brings Tucker to mind, except that he actually WAS building cars and the ICC shut him down anyway!

Of course m&m would rather settle this behind closed doors. They don't need anymore bad publicity. They still haven't filed for epa certification, and still haven't tried to copy write the trucks names. Then they say they don't recognize an american court to deal with an indian company??? Wow,they must put away a lot of curry flavored wheaties

Anybody want to do business with a company that feels they do not have to answer to the US legal system? They are really getting bad advice on how to do PR.

I think the problem is that they don't listen to advice. They have GV here to handle things stateside, but they won't let them handle things. They've got these ad agencies on retainer, but they aren't using their capabilities, either. They are stubborn and controlling even though they don't have a clue how to act in their own best interest in this country. There they go (allegedly) nickel and dime haggling over the testing fees causing multiple problems with delays and bad publicity and now a law suit- they weren't asking for anyone's advice then, and they still aren't. The smart company leaders know enough to hire expertise and listen to it, M & M ain't doing that and it's costing them big. It's not just the ones in this forum that know about this non-launch, it's the automotive media, and investors, and whoever the dealers have bitched to, and all the other blogs and forums that pick up information here and in the news, etc. I bet the farm demographic that was supposedly an early target for the sale of these trucks knows a bit about this, too. Shot themselves in the foot? Well, yeah.

One thing we know for sure is that GV will most likely be out of the picture before too long. Suing Mahindra will surely have sealed their fate as exclusive US Mahindra importer and left a nasty taste in Anand’s mouth. This is unfortunate, because I think they have been doing what they could.

This is all conjecture, but I think that I am beginning to see a different big picture of what may be going on:

Maybe Mahindra decided a while back to give GV the boot (and GV suspects this). Is it possible that the fine print on GV’s contract with M&M states that they have exclusive import rights on only two pickup truck models and maybe the Scorpio and MUC? But does that import exclusivity include any ‘new’ pickup and SUV platforms (i.e. the next gen Scorpio and the W201)? Or, maybe the contract with M&M expires at the end of 2010?

Maybe Mahindra has decided to abort the launch of the current Scorpio-based pickup and SUV, which we all know are at the end of their life cycle, and they want to take GV out of the picture at the same time. Would it then make sense to ‘create’ delays on the EPA certs if they have no intention of bringing the current truck over? Kill two birds with one stone. Bring in a better new product, and bring it in without giving GV a cut. And to further Peewee’s point, why bother with an ad campaign until you have a shiny new pickup and SUV model here to advertise? Is that the reason no advertising exists? Who hasn’t been harsh on the current pickup styling? Maybe the new generation pickup holds wider public appeal as well.

Anyone have a different theory?

The most interesting person I ever met once said 35 years ago, "Don't assume conspiracy when incompetence will suffice..." (as an explanation). When I read Pee Wee's post my immediate reaction was, of course. Wish I had thought of that. But MahindraPlanet may be correct, there really may be conspiracy. The conspiracy theorists were correct about Ruby Ridge.
