Register to stop seeing this ad! EPA Testing is complete and Mahindra is expected to formally request approval within the next few days. Mike Levine speculates that approval could take another 30 days, and first trucks may arrive 30-60 days afterward.High estimate puts us around the first week of August 2010 for Indian rubber to actually hit US roads. http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dl...IL03/304269955 Report: Mahindra Still Working Towards Future Sales Date - PickupTrucks.com News

It is going to be tough to get the word out about this truck if they don't like to make announcements

What I'm interested in seeing is what kind of m.p.g. they finally were able to achieve after all the emissions reduction. They were throwing numbers around in the past like 30 and better than 30, then 30 combined, then 30 hwy, then about 30 hwy. The predicted horsepower and torque numbers for these trucks started out higher than they ended up, so I wouldn't be surprised if the fuel economy numbers pan out to be less than 30 mpg highway. If they come out with a selling price that is also lower than predicted, that would be good. Since they have basically no competition in this segment they don't have to drop the price, but if they want to sell a bunch of them it would do the trick to make them more affordable. That would get the word out better than anything.

This is great news indeed..
But one Q - Does completing the testing process mean that they have passed EPA? Or is it that Mahindra has done its share of testing and its up to EPA to decide if the vehicles are good to sell? Not trying to paint anything bleak.. Just curios

They still haven't applied for EPA certification. They have only completed internal testing. It'll be a minimum of 90 days before any trucks arrive. They only have a couple of months to get EPA certified or they won't be here in 2010.
I still haven't heard anything regarding crash tests. I agree with other posters who are skeptical about Mahindra achieving 30 mpg. The Australian version is getting less than 25 mpg. The US version does have a smaller engine, but it's more powerful, has more emissions equipment, and is coupled to an automatic transmission. The 4 cylinder Ranger get 27 mpg. Mahindra better top that. |

The mileage is a different animal. The mHawk engine is only a hair smaller but it is a completely different design from the 2.5 L motor the Aussie's have so it doesn't surprise me that the efficiency would be a lot higher. That being said I am sure the 30 mpg target is the TR 20 2x4 models and everything else will either be at or below 30 mpg. |
