Wow, price hovering in the 40K's for a part time 4x4 with the slightly bigger diesel, no thanks when we have the 2011 Ford Superduty.

That is using the European tax structure we don't have too. I bet if it was released in the US the pricing would be high $20's for a base reaching into the mid to upper $30's maybe even $40 for a fully loaded model.

Here's another good article on it: Why It's Not Coming Here: VW Amarok priced at $35k in Europe — Autoblog. Bummer dude. Wish it was coming here.

I have an old friend who's the parts mgr at a VW store.
His favorite saying is, "Only a millionaire can afford a VW with more than 80,000 miles."

I've yet to step foot in a VW store since he first made that statement. Of course, I have no use for anything they make, or pleather seats.

Default Give VW a Quality Rest

Good bet the Amarok will never see the states due to the wonderful Chicken Tax. Also it is really more of a city use, open cargo vehicle then a 4x4 Truck. That said it is nice to look at.

Now for the quality remarks of VW in general (this site and many others). They do build good automobiles that have far better than big-3 quality. It is true that while the Mexico Factory got up to speed there were issues with the late 80's early 90's production but that's old news just like using a GM 70's gas engine conversion to diesel as an example of Diesel technology.

My 2001 Jetta TDI is far and above the best, highest quality, most fun, lowest maintenance cost vehicle I've ever owned after 5 new Fords and 1 new Toyota. Three of the Fords were F-250/150 2x4 and 4x4. The last a 91 4x4 with 135K miles became a beast to handle at 100K, the Jetta is at 125K miles and handles like new (2001 new not 2010 technology new) . . . . plus I'm getting 45 MPG city and 49-52 highway.

So let's not assume today's VW is yesterday's air-cooled Bug.
If Amarok were available, if it had Truck features, if . . . well I would be glad to buy one.

Hopefully the Mahindra will not become a long list of If's, beyond If it is ever available.

The Amarok screams Dodge Dakota to me. I mean, look at it, even the body lines look like a Dakota. If you weren't looking real close at the back end of one, it'd be pretty easy to confuse it with the Dodge.

I've owned several VW's. I've never met one that didn't have an electrical problem in it...somewhere (because they were all harder than the dickens to trouble-shoot).

Hmmm, I say more like a cross between Honda Ridgeline and Nissan Titan. Anyone else?
