Piss me off seen those big V8 diesel trucks letting out smoke like crazy! Looks like they can do whatever they want to do, no emission requirements on those...
Even the heavy duties have to comply with this. If you were referring to say 18 wheelers they too will have to start complying with reduced emissions levels in 2012 I believe. If not then its 2014. This applies to all diesels meaning trains, generators, construction equipment, etc. This is where the majority of pollution in "transportation" is focused and I am glad that this is being addressed.

Before anyone chimes in, yes I am aware that the increased cost to supply emissions controls on these industries will generally increase the cost of raw materials, goods, commodities, etc that will cost me as the end user more money. I am OK with the minor increase in cost. Consider it a one time inflation bump of 5-7% versus the normal 3% inflation.

ummm, just for the record, MY V8 TD doesn't belch black smoke, and no one else who keeps their (diesel pickup) truck properly maintained has a smoker either. And as of 2008 (I may be off a year), ALL diesels below 9900 lbs GVW have to meet the same standards. So the playing field is level dude. The manufacturers won't bring in anything they don't think will meet their ROI requirements...
cheers,
