Default Transmission reliability?

Register to stop seeing this ad!

Any news or speculation about the reliability of the auto trans? I have alot of faith in their diesel engine, but I have my doubts about the auto trans going past 150k or 200k miles.

Will there be a manual trans option?

Default Transmission Mfg

Awhile back I was told by a Mahindra dealer; who traveled to India to see the assembly plants there; that the transmissions are made by a German company known as ZF for short.

Look them up on the net. They have won awards for their late model transmissions etc.

The TR20/40 is supposed to come with a ZF 6sp auto trans initially. They use them in BMW's and others. Good luck.......

Waiting for a TR40 here..........J

The ZF trannys are bullet proof. They'll last a hell of a long time. They are used to abuse as they often make it into racing/performance machines with signifiancatly more power and harsher conditions than the Mahindra will likely get.

I can fully see the tranny matching the engine life or so dang long the truck will be on its 3rd owner before anything goes wrong.

wow thats impressive... Was digging through threads and one also mentioned borg-warner transfer case and dana axles. Now I know why these trucks are coming with a 20k plus price tag. I was kinda disappointed in that. I was hoping for sub 20k.

Still would be nice to be able to get a manual trans tho.

Yes, ZF makes heavy duty automatics. Used extensively in the heavy truck and commercial bus industries. They are the German competitor for Allison. It will be interesting to drive one.

I think the truck will rust to the ground before the powertrain falls apart

Default ZF Transmissions

I owned a 1973 Styr Puch Pinzgauer 710M equipped with a ZF 5-speed transmission. This truck is the main troop transport for Switzerland and Austria armies. The transmission is very reliable!

I'll have to talk to the 155,000 mile, ten year old, original 4L60E tranny in my Chevy truck and let it know it's not supposed to be working.
