I think you are exactly right. A plain-jane work truck just doesn't exist anymore , all you get is what some dip-$h** in Detroit , Tokyo and the EPA who decide what truck and motor you get..

My wife has Jeep Liberty diesel. It is an outstanding SUV. She even put gas in it once and it survived!!

Engine is Italian industrial CRD, owned by Detroit Diesel. They only sold them for maybe 3 years.

You are so right. Everyone does not want a fire breathing Dura Max or what ever...jeez, they just do not get it.
