One thing I've wondered- they always make the point that it doesn't have a timing belt, but they've never really said it's an overhead cam engine. It could be a conventional pushrod engine with a gear-driven cam, which wouldn't be anything unusual at all.

Given the RPM limits of most diesels, there really wouldn't be any downside to using pushrods apart from the extra parts involved.
For "V" configuration engines Hugh, I agree w/ you. But for an inline 4 it's prolly an OHC.

But then again, our guesses are as good as theirs...

Okay, consider this thread a wiki. I'm going to post my raw research data on the mHawk CRDe (2nd generation). I am giving it to you guys to confirm, question, modify, or flame.

Have fun:

mHawk CRDe 2nd generation (DOHC) – introduced 2007 (US, India, world markets):
2.2L (2,179cc), 120bhp @ 4000 RPM, 290Nm @ 1800-2800 RPM, aluminum block?, aluminum head, 4-cylinder, 4 valves/cylinder, hydraulic lash adjustment, DOHC, gear driven cams (or 2-stage chain drive?), 2nd generation Bosch common rail (high pressure indirect injection with solenoid injectors), VG (variable geometry) turbo with intercooler (integrated top mount), compression ratio?, crank (forged? cast?), bore x stroke?, engine design by AVL (Austria), fuel injection/ignition designed/supplied by Bosch, meets BS-IV emissions, Mahindra Micro-hybrid technology (used in Indian versions, seamless engine deactivation/reactivation between on-throttle and idle conditions).

Betcha money it's identical to the VW 2.something diesel, less the displacement.

First post here.
Mahindra uses Peugeot engines on one of their Jeeps.
Could it be some version of the 2.2 HDI?

It also dose not say if the injectors are the older solenoid or the newer Piezo ones.

I think all are now Piezo injectors becuase they are the only kind that can supply the correct amount of fuel multiple times per cycle to help reduce emmissions. Nothing else is quick enough.
