My one is the very original one which was modelled off the WW2 Willys jeep. My neighbour has an actually Willys, but it needs to be restored. Cant wait till he has it finished!!!!

costs too much and isn't legal until at least 25 years have past. That allows emission's requirements and safety requirements to fall by the wayside.

Ill take a stab and say timing is off. Set cylinder 1 to TDC and check timing mark.

Default timing belt

ya you were right, the crank was out by one tooth, my inexperience let me down, i put on the new belt checked my timing marks and were all ok. Then i released the tensioner and put the jeep back together. im pretty sure when the tensioner tighened the belt it pulled the crank around slightly luckily their was a small bit of the mark left on the sprocket when i marked them . but its running great now, sweet as a nut, tight as a not, sound as a drum, ticking over like a mouses heart.
