Default Tax credits available?

Register to stop seeing this ad!

I did some snooping around on the DOE site and found that the Mahindra trucks may qualify for a tax credit IF it gets on the list of qualified "lean burn" engined vehicles.

Right now it looks like there are gas and diesel engines that qualify BUT I could not find out what tax year the tax credits become 'no longer available'.

From what I sifted from the mumbo jumbo it looks like the credit is available until a manufacturer sells 60000 vehicles then the credits for that particular vehicle starts to get phased out over the next 3 quarters of that model year.

I guess I need to find a Philadelphia outhouse lawyer to interpret the mumbo jumbo.

Edit: found this........ http://www.irs.gov/businesses/corpor...214283,00.html

I don't think it's a case of Won't, it's more a case of Can't release a launch date. They've been working on it for how long now- three, four years? As far as we can determine, the truck still isn't ready- they've made a lot of progress I assume. The big disappointment would be if they still don't pass the emissions testing and have to delay again. I think their peak opportunity here has arrived and is slowly passing, but hopefully we'll see something happen soon.

Yes, I'd say thier peak opportunity is passing too. I mean, I want to like these diesel pickups but they make it so difficult with delay after delay. To me it looks as if their launch was ill conceived and poorly planned. It makes me second guess if putting my money in a company like this is a wise investment. If they're having this much trouble getting vehicles in the US for sale how well will they do with day to day operations?

I did some more snooping around today on the IRS website. I read a 2006 document laying out how a Mfgr. should submit info to qualify a vehicle for a tax credit for the vehicle to the buyer. Well, the Mfgr. must submit the proof that the vehicle meets the required EPA and Safety/Crash test reports and they must meet and comply with those agency requirements. Also, it must be a direct injection engine, use more air than the injected fuel can use (lean burn), and get 25% better MPG than a comparable 2002 model. THAT'S JUST A BRIEF SUMMARY!!! Now M&M and GV must have a van full of craphouse lawyers working on this and the Safety and EPA requirements and untold paperwork. After reading through that one document, I now understand why businesses are folding here in the USA and venturing abroad.

Keep waiting guys, it will probably be awhile...........J
