I have a customer that says he saw the Mahindra trucks at an event in Arizona last year. I have heard similar stories from others that have seen demo/prototypes running around. I am not sure the Shanghai theory is valid. These delays probably have more to do with bureaucracy within our US Governmental system and the US EPA and their high and mighty attitudes about how we can change the planet. In discussions that I have had with the decision makers at Ford/GM/Toyota at industry measuring sessions and new product meetings is that they have dropped all hopes of building any small/medium size diesel trucks in the USA, because of the EPA standards here. The trucks would be too expensive. India can build these exhaust systems much cheaper than we can here, so they can get away with it and keep the costs down. Of course the US has to come up with some other hoops for them to jump through now. Then when they make it through that one, they come up with another and another...
This is just my take on it... for what it's worth.
Cheers,

Well, you have a good point UteMan, but stil... Why do you think that they are not releasing the photos of what the US Mahindra will look like??? That should have nothing to do with APA etc. The truck design is already set (whatever it maybe), APA would not affect the looks of the truck and they should have this part ready by now, and yet, they keep posting that old truck photos...
I still think that they do not want to reveal its looks until May 1st due to Sanghai, but I guess will we find out soon enough. I wish they would sell it now in April, but we all know that is just not possible at this point. I hope they will have it for sale by the end of May or June at the least. Edmund.com called it for September. I really hope that they were wrong...

Not sure why they won't show photos. The most plausible excuse for the delays that I have heard is that the factory is still awaiting parts. That has been the industry wide problem since last year. Assembly lines can not start up until every part is in house. Right down to the knobs on the dash. When the gov't bailed out GM last year, it took months before they could build again. Suppliers were out of stock, because they had nobody to sell to. Some suppliers went belly up. The gov't in it's divine wisdom said, "we see no need to bail out the suppliers." So who knows what the real reason is in this case? We can only speculate.

I am just hoping they release some info soon. Since MotocarsMahindra already has an idea of what he will be getting, I am hoping that is a sign that things are getting closer. Hopefully one of those TX dealers will get what I want.

Now that is a shame for Mahindra. However, maybe some bad publicity will get them a little more interested in hitting hard dates when they announce them.

The latest news I read over the weekend actually indicated that it is the emissions and the EPA approval that is the hold up.

That can not be right Uteman, since we have heard from Mahindra that emissions and EPA would be the last stage of the process. Basically, they would not apply for that until they would be ready. So, I guess they are not ready.
Another thing that I don't get is why would they be testing the cars in the US that are not the ones that we will be using??? Not even the engine is the same, so what is the point?? By now they know how those trucks ride, since they are using them somewhere else! Does anyone knows the point of that???
Everytime you see a car being tested in the USA, it has been a new model , hance the reason why the discase and masking of the "new vehicle".
That is one thing that I can't figure it out about Mahindra and scares me also.... It feels like they are still a long time from having a truck ready, despite they keep telling us that is around the corner (since summer of 2009)

It is frustrating, I know. I suspect it is all politics as usual. My understanding is that, once the emissions system has passed its final tests, then it is submitted to the EPA for the magic wand of approval. Trouble there is that they can hold it up as long as they please. Sort of like US Customs. Better not complain or you will be guaranteed a longer delay. Once EPA has it, they will most likely take another month working it through their approval processes. Let's hope for the best.
