Hey guys, I though that this is interesting... So I am sharing...

"VW Releases Detailed Pricing on U.S.-Spec 2010 Golf and TDI, 140HP Diesel gets up to 42mpg Highway "
"The 2010 Golf TDI is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel that produces 140HP at 4,000 rpm, and 236 lb-ft. of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. When equipped with the standard six-speed manual transmission, it returns an EPA-estimated 30mpg during city travel, 41mpg on the highway, and a 0 to 60 mph sprint time of 8.6 seconds."

That makes me hopeful for the Mahindra truck!!! What do you think?
Cheers
David

the VW's are also about 1000-1200 lbs lighter with a lower cd rating. I bet that what we see is 21-24 city and 28-30 highway depending on which truck you get and if it is 4x4 or 4x2.

I bet with the next gen trucks the aerodynamics will be better addressed for US highway driving that isn't terribly applicable in India. this will in no doubt improve the highway figures by 10% or more.

to improve the city mileage they'd have to reduce weight but that would cost more than improving aerodynamics.

I've been thinking there's a connection between the two for a while now.
Definitely the same common rail set up, exhaust, and a few other items.
The VW TDIs are a hoot for all the torque they bring to the table, but I'm skeptical on longevity.
The trick will be to find out who's building Mahindra's motor, or if they bought the rights the VW's.

they aren't even the same size motor, I know Bosch tuned the Mahindra engine for the us and they may be a major supplier for VW but past that I think they are seperate designs.

I have been wondering the same things as my father owns a 2010 Jetta TDI. The only thing that I see is the difference in displacement in the engine. The VW's are 2.0L and the Mahindra is a 2.2L, this factor makes me think that they are not the same engine. I could be wrong though...

You guys are probably right. I'm simply linking too much based on the injection and exhaust systems, which are probably commonplace by now across the rest of the world.

Grew up in San Antonio, TX. Going to school in NY, but in May I will be heading back to start working in Killeen, TX. Luckily, that area is surrounded by multiple Mahindra dealerships!

Pete, I am currently right now at West Point, but I only have a couple months left before I leave. I have already received my orders and I am anxiously awaiting graduation/commissioning.
