Nope, just don't fly off the handle with every rumor I hear.

Kinda interested in one of the trucks when they get here.

There ya go! The right additude right there, hsfbfan!

It may turn out to be a polished turd or a kick-@ss truck! No one will find out until it has been personally test-driven!

Default Buy something else

Go to Mahindra Planet and look at the truck they photographed in Utah yesterday. This looks like a truck only Yugo could make. Thin body panels that will probably rust out and let in extensive road noise, high center of gravity, and ugly as sin. If this is the vehicle we've all been waiting for I would rather drive my tractor.

Dude, y'all had to know what the thing looks like, there's pics of it all over the site. Guess it's time to fire-up the tractor...

cheers,

Default Same ol' Same ol'

My last post on this thread indicated that I was going to upgrade my existing ride (92 Ford Ranger) and not be caught up with the lack of response from GV or Mahindra. Things have not changed from all I have read. I agree with most, that it is probably our government again dictating control over the surfs and keeping the breathern on a short leash

Well, just completed doing my transmission and rear end (went with 3.73's posi 7.5). Next, I am going to be re-doing the interior (seats/flooring). I have $575 tied up so far and am very happy with the results.

Be interesting to come back to this thread in April, and see what has happened with M&M and GV. While some of you are still being optomistic; I, for one, will have my truck set up the way I want it

I always thought the ShadeTreeConversions YouTube video was enticing. He says up to 45mpg. Should be alot of small inexpensive tractor engines available too.

The truck may get 50mpg but did you see how slow the truck in his video accelerated when he pulled out on the highway. The vehicle behind him had to slow down. I couldn't hear the guy talking once he started up his truck. Talk about load? How many states which have vehicle emissions laws would allow this to be done? The southern states which don't have yearly emissions inspections may be able to do this. A 4cyl perkins diesel is about 60HP and less than 100ft lbs of torque. Plus $50 for a downloaded book, is he kidding? He has no publishing costs. I may buy the book for laughs at $10 but this guy can't be serious I would spend $50 for this information.

He would of seemed alot more believable in the video if he pulled a loaded trailer when he merged out on the highway. But then that would of shown how underpowered the truck of that size and weight really is with a 4 cylinder diesel.

The production costs of creating a downloadable manual can be expensive - especially if you are creating the content yourself and the "buying universe" is microcosmic! Just because it's not on paper does not mean it can be cheap.

That said, I heartily agree with your comments on the resulting vehicle. All you end up with is a truck with a Diesel engine. A lot of the increase in performance and load-carrying ability is wrapped up in the rest of the vehicle.

In the Suzuki Universe, folks stick VW Diesels in their Samurais/Sidekicks/Trackers with great offroad performance and moderate DD performance because the VW Diesel can run at nominally higher RPMs than your typical farm tractor Diesel.

There's no point in dropping a Diesel into a truck without properly prepping the rest of the drivetrain...

Sometimes "Different" is nothing more than "Cool"

I am suprised that no one have tried to adapt the new VW diesel engine to a small truck!
I know nothing about the mechanics of it, but it seem that would make more sense and more power....
