I have to say that I am a little worried about Mahindra costumer service already! That is not an answer to give to people interested in buying your product...
Another matter.
I have been following and in fact joined the Brazilian Mahindra Forum, to learn more about those trucks and how they are doing in Brazil. Basically the trucks are the same, and they start to sell in 2008.
This forum in Brazil have about less than 200 members, but only 1/2 own the trucks, others like me, want to learn more.
So, overall, they owners are saying that the truck is nice and tough and they have been please for the most part. Now the bad part is that the trucks have lots of minor issues, and owners are struggling to get it fixed. Dealers are far between and they have very lillte parts in stock. There is a guy that is waiting on the part to come from India for the last 4 weeks!
They seem to have a lot of problem with the diesel filter, and truck have been often loosing power, etc. So have have been changing the fuel filter every 6K miles to solve the problem, but again, this is probably due to Brazilian diesel quality.
Some say that they are afraid of having fun, and really taken the truck to the mud, brake something, and get stuck waiting for a long time for repairs, or not getting a satisfactory repair, having to go to the dealer 2-4 times with the same issue....
They also complain that most of the time when they take the truck to the dealer with a problem, they are at loss themselves, since dealers are new, mechanics are new, etc, and give the same lame excuse the Harley Davidson give to its owners ( I am HD rider) "Well, that's how they are" Man that always piss me off! $$20K bikes with lame problems and worst excuses. Well, that is another problem...
In short, have been in touch with the Brazilian guys that are into the 2nd year of Mahindra ownership have open my eyes a little.
Some guys say... why invest in something that does not have the best costumer service, few dealers, few parts and a new trying product, while you can buy for the same $$ another good product, with dealers and mechanics everywhere!?!
This have given me a good wake up call.
I am still excited about the truck, and I will wait for it before buying something else. But I will not buy one, now matter how much I like, unless I have a dealer close to my house and that is a reputable car dealer. So far, in TN the only people that sign up to sell Mahindra, are 1h from Nashville and the are a RV dealer!! If that holds, Mahindra may be sweet as it can be, but there is no way I will buy one.
So.... your thoughts...
Thanks
David

Moulin I have a 05 duramax that if the fuel filter isnt changed every oil change which is 8 to 10 thousand miles your screwed. So the fuel thing apparently is a world wide thing.

A dealer within an hour would be no problem for me and I would say in the future thats what all the brands will be doing. Tractors and construction dealers for instance are doing 100 mile raduis in my area.

Small things are going to happen on these trucks. They all have small problems. Some have large problems (ford 6.0,dodge trannys, toyota gas pedal, volkswagon electrical, ford keyswitch,gm power steering failure).I say lets not get our panties in a wad and wait fir them to come out first.

Anyways where are you going to buy a little diesel at?At least Mahindra is trying.NONE of the others are even trying. It sounds to me that a small diesel is dead for ford gm ect.

One things for sure Ill never buy a new gm or dodge due to that obongo gov and the onions owning them.I have been a loyale gm customers since 16 (26 years) and I would buy a new toyota with the gas pedal stuck to the floor before I would buy gm.

Just as I was suspecting after reading the pickuptruck.com article. Not much refinement and slapped together. Definitely won't sit well with the US auto buyers. For those interested, the best bet is to wait and get one cheap on depreciated resale.

I thought that article was written about the Mahindra truck that is imported to Australia. From reports and words on this forum, the Mahindra they are bringing here has been heavily modified and reworked in order to compete in the US market?

You're right, not exact, but could be indicative of Mahi's production quality. Aussi and Brazillian reports back up poor Mahi quality in relation to the competition.

Aside from the evolutionary engine change, I haven't read anything about heavy mods. The front bumper mod for passing US's low speed crash tests demonstrates a level of modification in the quick and dirty bolt-on variety.

I think we all have to back off and wait for the final product to come in. None of us know exactally what the final truck will look like. Both Anand Mahindra and Poewn Goenka know exactly what is needed to sell a truck in the us. Really we complain about the delays, myself included, but I think that speaks volumes towards the fact that Mahindra know that they will only get one chance to get this right.

And lets just thank Monmany for responding. At least she is the first one to answer me.

Keep in mind that Brazilian Mahindras are built in Brazil at Mahindra By Bramont. The trucks we will get are being built in India. Nothing against the Brazilian manufacturing operation, but maybe Mahindra will have tighter control of their quality process in-house.

To reiterate Joe’s comment: Mahindra knows full well that the trucks, and the level of customer service will have to be extraordinary in the US or they will die on the vine. I am certain they aren’t striving to be the next Yugo. We all know that even the mighty Toyota isn’t immune to technical and public relations issues. Mahindra will certainly be under even closer scrutiny.

Damn, I find myself defending Mahindra so much, I think they should give me a truck!

I'm still willing to give them a chance, but Mahindra better have some trucks on the ground here by late March or early April or I'm moving on. I can't imagine why things would need to be delayed until September- they've had years to prepare, maybe they don't want to eat that chicken tax any more than we do. It's their call, but come April I'm through waiting. I usually drive a new vehicle at least ten years before I buy again, so I might buy a '20 model Mahindra if they're still here.

I have been to the mahindra assembly plant in Nasik India, it is very modern with robtic welders, robotic painters. They use the Kizan principals in the assembly process. They do realize they have on chance to get it right for the US market. I spoke with John Perez after he drove the US version in Germany at the Bosch testing facility. He said about the ride and drive "If BMW made a truck this would be it". I would not expect the fit and finish to be as good, but the running gear, brakes and performance is above par with any modern production vehicle in the same price range today.

Let's hope for this and receive this quality too. The anticipation for this truck is starting to get pretty bad though, only a couple more months though [trying to be optimistic...]
