Most of my off roading is done on the beach in soft sand. Even with the tires aired down to 15 pounds it would take a much faster reaction time than mine to control a manual and clutch in deep sand. If anyone has tried to dig out a F250 that is buried to the frame in sand they would appreciate the auto tranny.

I picked auto cause Im lazy.
Also Ive been beat and banged around enough to know that sometimes one foot cant do all thats needs to be done.
Nearly 25 years ago I truck pulled a 2 wheel drive chevy truck with a 4 speed and I was in a cast from my hip to my toes.We adjusted the idle pretty high I tightened the chain, cleared the throttle, dumped the clutch and mashed the go pedal as fast as an 18 year old can, if my memory serves me correctly stock ujoints can only handle that 1 time.

If it was just me I would get the manual. But the wife will occasionally use the truck so auto it is.
Cheers,

Mike

Ummm... Why the five star rating? I take it the stars are something you have control over and are disbursed solely upon your decision?

Not sure about that one Dick. I put the five stars up to give the thread extra attention.

Default Hard to say

Though I voted for an automatic, to me it depends on how much the automatic costs and how much it hurts gas mileage compared to a standard. Also all of these posts keep saying a standard can tow as much as an automatic. Yet with the smaller trucks, such as the Colorado and Ranger, maximum tow ratings come with an automatic.

But I have been driving a 1994 S-10 with a standard that I bought new, and I am tired of a standard.
