8000 lbs towing capacity is probably a tad optimistic, 5000 lbs is not pie-in-the-sky at all. A 2.7L Dodge Sprinter is rated for that, and so is the 2.3L Jeep Liberty CRD.

Yes, that's true. I am hoping with the extra weight capacity that the little truck will haul more. It almost seems that its being underrated.

My little ranger is rated about 5000 trailer and it doesn't have near the torque. I have the 2.3L 4 cyl and stick.

Alot of time stopping power is what sets the towing ability. With the payload they show to have, if I had trailer brakes 7000 lbs should not be a problem.

Scary story time. I had a customer pull a loghog ( weighs around 10,000 lbs ) with a 1/2 ton chevy on a beatup car trailer ( rated at 7000 max ) that had no brakes on these ozark roads.
