Smile 6 Questions to Mahindra Answered

Register to stop seeing this ad!

I recently emailed my contact at Mahindra again asking him a few more questions that are common on this site and on MahindraTruckBlog.com. Here they are along with their answers:

  1. Did Mahindra decide to remove the tie-downs? Final decision on tie-downs - where and how many - are in process.
  2. What are the results of the crash tests? Crash test results are not finalized.
  3. What are the results of the EPA tests? EPA results are not finalized.
  4. Will they be joining any auto shows this year? No major auto shows this year.
  5. When will they release the full specifications? Do not have a release date for the specifications; probably closer to launch.
  6. Is the February release date pushing through? February date is still on track.

Question crash test results

that's interesting that you were told the crash test results weren't finalized.

Near the end of August Mike Levine at Pickuptrucks.com writes “The [front and side impact] crash testing is done,” Perez said. Mahindra “hasn’t shared the results with us yet but they’ve told us they’re much better than even they expected.”

The Perez referred to is John Perez, CEO of Global Vehicles USA.

Are you sure Perez was not referring to the Cross Lander?

Well, I'm glad he's at least talking to you but the responses are a little smelly. It's hard to believe they're planning on having a vehicle for sale in ~4 months that hasn't completed crash tests or EPA certification yet. The results of those tests would be likely to require some changes (however minor) to the design of the trucks which would have to be incorporated in the production line prior to the first truck being built, much less ready for sale in the U.S.

IMHO either the tests are done and he's not telling you or there's no way they're gonna have trucks for sale in February 2010.

Default good deal

Sounds like they are pretty up front about things to me.

Default specifications

I noticed they have a couple of new things at the Mahindrana.com site, a rollover map indicating locations of dealers by zip code (no name), and a two page brochure with alot of specifications. I noticed the engine torque figure is lower than earlier estimates, too bad. It is nice to finally see some more information, though.
