Default 2011 F150 Ecoboost

Register to stop seeing this ad!

I finally got a chance to drive one of the new Ecoboost trucks. I didn't get to do a back to back comparison with the 5.0 or any really indepth drive but it was certainly powerful and pulled strong with even a light 1/4-1/2 throttle input. the instnat MPG gauge was around 17 ish for the roughly 8-9 mile drive.

I can see getting about 15-16 around town and around 20-22 on the highway. the truck I drove was an XLT crew cab with 5.5' bed and 3.55 gears. Probably the most common Ecoboost you'll find.

It is way more than is needed IMHO but it should work well for the actual haulers.

Now if Ford can give me a comparable 3.0 ecoboost in a truck with 400-500 fewer pounds to lug around and a Cd of less than say .37 then they'll have a winner.

Something tells me I'll be waiting until 2014 for this to occur (new frame and updated body)

Thanks for the hands on info! Glad to hear it looks like the MPG numbers can live up to expectations. With fuel still going up and putting even more pressure on fuel economy, hopefully a smaller truck will be streamlined... hopefully..

It was a real short drive and it looked to be hitting the numbers and the motor was definately cold. I do tend to drive like a grandma but I did punch it a time or two to see how strong the acceleration was.

Not a bad truck at all if you need something that size and have $40k sitting around (sticker was about $40k flat)

Is that for a 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel drive model?

PickupTrucks.com is driving two 4x2 EcoBoost F-150’s from LA to Denver this week (one towing a 9000 pound trailer, the other unloaded). Mike Levine has been Tweeting along the way and he was reporting between 20 and 23 mpg in the unloaded truck (the 20 mpg was at elevation). We’ll have to wait for his final report, but here is the set up: What We're Testing This Week: 2011 Ford F-150 EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6 - PickupTrucks.com News

it is 2 identiccally equiped FX2's, meaning 4x2 on both. I am awaiting the test results too. I bet the 9000 lb trailer drops the mileage 25% compared to the non tow vehicle. I bet he gets about 21 mpg on one and 16 in the other.

Not bad for a gasser towing basically the limits of the truck

I guess I forgot to mention in my test drive I was in Twin Falls and they are about 3800 feet up.

I took the 3.7 4x4 regular cab on a 30-40 mile drive . I went down and back up Sandstone Mt. on I-64 which is where Ford does some testing at ( I've seen them testing Mustangs there ).. It did an average of just under 21mpg overall and hit a high of 34.5mpg on the instant reading while hyper-driving .. I would think after 10,000 or so miles it should average 23mpg.. I should also say it came up Sandstone and didn't even breath heavy ..

I'm sure with the power numbers that will be a very solid engine for a lot of people (I assume mainly fleet customers).

Not too long ago you could get the old 4.9 I6 in even a F250 and it seemed to work out ok for those who bought them. That motor had no where near the power of the 3.7
