Folks, It's over. I've been lurking here for awhile. I've decided to buy a Ford Ranger and get on with my life. This Mahindra thing just ain't gonna happen. I'm so sick of looking and wanting one of those trucks, I hope I never see one again. Why can we not get a small diesel pickup in this country? It's absolutely crazy...... Merry Christmas and goodbye.

I would not recommend a Ranger. My 2008 is a gas hog with defective brakes. I found online Ford has finally admitted to the brake issues , but say it's a wear issue not a safety issue..With less than 60,000 miles I am looking at my 3rd set of brakes and rotors. I have worked around dozens of Rangers and they all have brake problems. As bad as I hate to say this , I would recommend you take a hard look at Suzuki (Nissan) or Toyota unless a F150 is too big for your needs...

Kinda interesting regarding the brake thing. I've been thinking of a Ranger as a possibility and know three other engineers at work who have them and swear by them. Two of the three with over 100k on the clock. I'm not doubting the issue, but none of the three have mentioned brake issues.

Ive been around a lot of them and have seen it quite often. The back brakes auto adjusters don't always work right, which puts more work on the front which have a tendency to stick. You can put an aftermarket rear disc kit on for around $1500.00, or you can have the brakes cleaned and manually adjusted every oil change.. This seams to be the Rangers only weakness. If Ford would just put disc on the rear and a "affordable" Eco Boost 4 cyl.... My question to Ford would be... You say you are going to stop making the Ranger due to the Eco Boost putting the F150 into Ranger millage? Then would the Eco Boost not put the Ranger into Hyundai Accent millage ???? Just a thought.....

EXACTLY!! How can they be so brain dead as to think guys wouldn't jump all over a truck that was even MORE efficient than the current Ranger? Start with the weight of an F-150 and try to save fuel, or design for efficiency . . .
Those people who need a big truck will buy one, but the rest of the people would like a choice.

Good choice on the Ranger. Sturdy little trucks.

Dozens of Rangers? Ive never heard that, even on the various Ranger forums. What model year are these rangers?

I just in the past thousand miles replaced my OE rotors and pads. Lasted nearly 140k miles... My rear drums have been submerged in the salty gulf water many times with no issues. A rear brake drum kit that will replace the adjuster and cables (etc) is fairly cheap. If that's not it I'd start looking at the front calipers. Don't keep throwing money at a problem by fixing the end result - Fix the problem!

As for fuel mileage - Id like better, but can't complain. I get a constant 20mpg or so with a high rise bed topper and 400 pounds or so of tools and supplies in the back end... And that's with blocks in the rear and a 2in lift up front and 31in tall tires... Not sure of any other vehicles that can compare to that fuel economy?

Nope. Not gonna happen. Just makes too much damn sense.

"Makes too much sense".I couldn't agree more.here's the thing that really blows me away:Ford has what's called the "global ranger".Hmmm........are we not part of the "globe"?And if not.....why not??I'm looking at 1/2 tons right now because there isn't anything else that would suit my needs.Maybe the ranger would but I would hate to buy one and then be disappointed because of low power or maybe even worse mileage then I could get out of a full size.Damn.....this crap makes me crazy.
