I got better fuel economy after adding all the performance and tuning items on my truck... Obviously there is a point at which your truck starts losing it's fuel efficiency again, but often times diesel pickups will gain a little more MPG's with some basic mods.

What year is your dmax?

I have a 09 LMM with about 30K miles so my factory warrenty is till 100K and voiding that is not something I cant bring myself to do.But gains of 4-6 mpg are obtainable,I average 14.5 in mixed driving and have a heavy foot.

The 20 mpg mark in a truck is tough. Now that the new Ford motors aren't going to live up to Fords bragging, not to mention the new Fiesta which fell 5mpg below Fords premature bragging... Toyota who has always had the better mpg will now fall to the middle of the pack..I just wonder if Toyota has something up their sleeve?? Anyway is removing the DPF an exhaust alteration ? Someone I know who works at an exhaust shop tells me he can ( for about $200.00 ) alter my Ranger 4.0 exhaust and get about 4 - 6 more mpg.. Everything I read online says not to do it,cause you can end up with less mpg...??

I think I am about to fall off the Mihadra bandwagon too... The new F150 with the 3.7 is calling me... 23 mpg (hwy) on the sticker, and pickup-truck.com reporting 21.4mpg real world mixed loop driving, out of a 3.7l, 302hp v6. I don't think the 3.5l TT Eco-boost will live up to the hype, but the 3.7l looks like the real deal for those of us wanting a true 20mpg truck.

Really, I would rather have the 30mpg compact diesel, but I can't have that, looks like...

A DPF is a Diesel Particulate Filter. I'm fairly certain that you don't have one of those on your Ranger. And yes, it is illegal to remove them under Federal law (and most state laws). As for "altering" your Ranger exhaust, the only thing you can do is headers, free-flowing cats (or none, also illegal) and free flowing or no muffler (maybe illegal depending on your noise laws. 4 to 6 more mpg from doing any of that from a 4.0 Cologne V6? Naa, not going to happen. You might squeeze 2 maybe, it'll sound better and have more power depending...

Default Tacoma feedback

Hi Folks,

Well after about a month after owning my 06 Taco 4dr I can say I like it alot.
I have had fun buying accessories for the truck and they are readily available on ebay and everywhere else.

Quite an engineering marval if you ask me. Don't have to crawl under to change the oil either. The filter is at the top of the engine just behind the radiator. Spin off, suck the oil out with a pella oil extractor and its finished business in no time.

4X4 4.0 V6 , 5sp auto with LS rear and low range electronic rear diff lock.

Towing capacity 6500lbs. I towed my 16' trailer with a load of firewood about 4k lbs with it no problem at all.

Very nice. Came with a Leer cap and Weston bull bar.

60K on the dial and running great.

Last night I was driving up an snowy/icy steep long hill in 4x4. Jumped on it and it launched straight as an arrow with no fishtailing at all. Its impressive.

Got a nice deal on it too.

Good luck guys.......I will try to post pix when its clean. Sloppy here in the NE right now.

Hey Topgut, congrats on the taco.....good show.Exhaust mods:For you late model diesel owners with the DPF system.remember,it is PART of a system.Removing just the dpf will not accomplish what you want,it's a lot more involved then that.My son is a shop foreman at a large diesel shop up in Billings. He has a 08 ram with the big Cummins. To take off,or out the dpf the whole engine computer needs to be reprogrammed,he said there is no way around it.That as most of you know will totally void the warranty for one,and might lead to legal problems too.My guess is it would really depend on your states laws etc.My son is waiting till his warranty is over then he will redo all of it,and do it right.

Other exhaust mods for us non-diesel owners:removing the cats is not a good idea at all.If your worried about more flow (less exhaust restriction)you can inexpensively replace your cats with performance hi-flow cats easily available at Summitt Racing/Jegs etc.Cat-back hi-po mufflers like my favorite Flowmaster 40 series (the loudest and most flowing) is a cheap improvement.More noticeable when you mod the intake like a cold air system or at the very least a performance dropin replacement filter such as K&N.Neither of those two mods will affect any warranty issues.Replaceing the spark plugs with a quality double iridium plug is far better then those bogus Diamond fire E-3's.I know too many people who took those back out because of fouling, and this is on new vehicles too.

I just had a flowmaster 40 series cat-back duals put on my new 11 chebby 5.3.Can't give a report on improved mpg till I refill again, which might be next month sometime.I don't drive out of town too often right now.Either today,or tomorrow I will order a Volent CAI system to complete the "easy breathing" mods.I will not be using a tuner on this one.......maybe.I will also add maybe next month a tonneau cover. That actually helps in the dept of mpg dept, and don't cost alot either. As I continue the mods,I will report.
