Default I've made up my mind.....

Register to stop seeing this ad!

Even if m&m brought the next gen models in I would not go near them.....not even for a test drive. So what do I get to pull a camper then? I have decided to get a new F150 4x4 with the new 5.0L cammer.360 hp,380 ft.lbs.or torque, and around 22 mpg hwy.In the past I've owned two F150 FX4's with the older 5.4 and got around 20.8 mpg hwy.The new 5.0 is much better.

Instead of running my usual Flowmaster 40 cat-back duals, this time I will run the Hearthrob cat-back with just the resonator tips.I ran this setup on my 97 ram 1500 Laramie and loved the way it sounded, including better mpg too.The only reason I didn't run them on my other vehicles is because I thought they went out of business.I was very wrong on that one.

I will also put on a CAI but haven't made up my mind yet as to which brand.I usually run K&N dropins, but not this time around.I am going for full sound pleasure/performance on this one...........why th' hell not.I will probably not run a SuperChips flashpak on this one either.Quite frankly,it is useless unless you want to tune for high test, which I don't.Oh yeah, the new 5.0 is also flex fuel, that will be a big help when doing roadtrips thru some states that offer it tons cheaper then regular.

Anywho, that is the plan and I will stick to it.It also helps being on the Ford X-plan too.....nice discount on top of whatever deal you can cut,and any added incentives.I will more then likely place my order after the new year.I still have some specs to work out, they are listed but unavailable right now.In fact, there ain't a 2011 F150 in this part of the state yet.None of the dealers have any.It will be my xmas present from me,to me.Hell yeah...

Hey Toxic!

Glad you found a good solution to fit your needs. I hope this means that you won't make yourself scarce around here though! If and when you get your F150, you need to post some pictures for us.

Andy

Goes back to the days when I worked part time at our local Ford dealership.I worked in the body shop.I also bought a 1965 1/2 K-model rag top with factory GT-350 suspension parts, engine, and frame (different k member front, stiffer rear springs and shocks and 3/4 length traction bars (also factory for the soon to be released GT 350).It also came from the factory with a 3:89 gears and a factory installed detroit locker.

In 77 my wife and I bought a new Granada and it was a huge steaming pile, and ford wouldn't fix it.Pissed me off so I stayed away from Ford till 03 and bought my first fx4.Bought another in 05,then went to jeeps for a while, now I'm going back to the F150.That 5.0 is strong a$$ medicine.A brute......yeah.

Angry Happy with 22 mpg ?

I like FORDs, have owned 3 new and one used. Last one a new 4x4 with the (last year's production) in-line 6 . . . . that old higher torque 300 cu in engine of history. That 4x4 got 24 MPG highway (light load) and could still tow by 2500# boat trailer well enough.

Cannot see how you can say 22 MPG highway is an improvement or acceptable.

You have every right to fully enjoy the new truck, and I hope you do. . . . . But let's remain realistic, as long as folks accept & buy this level of performance there is nothing to force the manufacturers to improve.

I wish I knew how to drive like you MuttonChops. I had a 1992 and a 1995 ford with the 4.9L straight 6. Both were 5 speed, regular cab, with the 3.08 rear end. I NEVER got above 17 on the highway in either of those trucks.

My current 06 Screw 4x2 with the 4.6 has NEVER gotten above 16 on the highway.

I'd say that 22 from a 4x4 super cab would be a vast improvement.

Default was it 24 for that truck?

Well I do drive with MPG not speed in mind, easy acceleration and stops.

Now that I think about it maybe I am confusing the 1981 4x2 (6) standard cab short box 4-sp OD manual with the 1991 4x4 (6) standard cab short box 5-sp manual.

Might have the two confused . . . but even so I can't see 22 MPG as a reason to cheer. Fords are great trucks. Making a big deal of a few percentage points improvement in MPG is just marketing hype.

22 mpg is nothing to jump up and down about but it is much better than any truck in the last 20 years. (at least for the V8's) Aerodynamics is the only thing that is goign to improve the highway figures much and I assume that by the next refreshes (2014-2015) that we'll see another 1-3 mpg

les weight will help the city mpg which probably matters more for light commercial use and me personally. That one will be much harder to improve but I have no doubts it will happen eventually. Maybe we 'll get a base level eco boost 2.0 in a 4200# truck in another 5 years?! Probably wishful thinking.

22mpg isn't the greatest mileage to be sure, but it's the best I can find and still be able to pull a trailer all through the mountains.A diesel pickup is a cool 50k$,I can't afford that, especially just to pull 5 or 6k lbs. It's all that is available.Believe it or not,I was counting on the tr40 to do the job.But whether or not it's gv's fault or m&m's,it still ain't here and not likely to be here for a long time if ever.My wife passed away back in July and I don't know if and when I will ever get a chance to go roaming around with a camper again.Life is short and I plan on living mine doing what I want.I can't wait like you younger guys can.If it only gets 20mpg,I'm gonna get it and use the hell out of it too.
