Hello All;

I found this news release at Edmunds. It does not specify a time-line, but China's goal is ambitious.

China's Foton To Build Trucks in Mexico

The article gives the quote that they will begin production of light trucks this year, but it definitely sounds like there won't be any vehicles headed our way at first, and maybe not for years. I know many people wouldn't want to buy a Chinese built vehicle, and I'd be hesitant about buying a truck made in Mexico for a Chinese company. That said, I'm also hesitant about buying a truck from India- then again, judging by the Mahindra delays it seems that India is hesitant about selling their trucks here, too. It sure seems like interesting times ahead for the pickup truck industry, it's no time to be taking a nap if you're a manufacturer.

When companies like Toyota are facing tough times with recalls and senate questions and what nots, I do not find Mahindra's over cautiousness all that absurd. What would be really absurd is they coming out with TRs that start breaking down easily even after all this extra testing and tweaks.

that has been their reasoning for not giving out more information and pushing back production all along.

In the current envirnment they have to make the US introduction right or they may never make it back here (at least not for a decade or more)

Given the less-then-stellar reviews from down under I would agree that they may be more then cautious now.What I see happening in the near future is other manufacturers like Toyota,Nissan,even Ford will get in line with a diesel compact PU.This is all good......for us the consumer.
