Default Chinese Cars

Register to stop seeing this ad!

I've read a couple articles that talk about how some Chinese auto manufacturers want to get their vehicles to the States in the near future... do you think that is realistic? How do you think people would respond to a Chinese car?

Granted, there are a lot more quality products coming out of China than their used to be, but do you think that the overall perception of Chinese products is that they are cheap? And to the point where most would not want to buy a Chinese vehicle?

Honest BYD was supposed to have their fully electric E3 or B3 (what ever the name is) on our shores before the Volt and Leaf but didn't quite make it. I think from their recent press release (in the last week) they still plan on releasing this car within a year here in the US with one other model to follow.

this is the same company Warren Buffet put $100 million into in 08.

I do have a low opinion of Chinese manufactured goods and of Chinese manufacturers themselves. I'm thinking shelves of junk at the Wal-Mart,and the Italian company that makes hiking boots and had a good name until they farmed out the manufacturing to China, the Italian company that made quality espresso machines until they farmed out the manufacture to China, the cabinet grade plywood that sells for 60% of what the domestic plywoods sell for, it looks nice but the stuff warps like they made it out of green wood . . .then there's the milk with melamine added to hide the fact it was watered down, the cereal made from cardboard, the pet food that killed pets . . .
I can't name a single modern manufactured product from China that is of high quality, which probably says a lot about my ignorance, as well as the power of the media. I would not consider buying a car made in China. Inferior products could come from anywhere, but my first assumption about Chinese goods is they're no good. (it's funny that I would consider an Indian truck, because their reputation is not so good, either)

I would not be willing at all to be an early adapter of a vehicle form China. India has a better reputation with me then China, and I would still wait 1-2 years before buying a Mahindra. China would be about 5 years. One critical element for me is that the engine with Mahindra is a Bosch design and I forgot who designed the transmission. Who designs the Chinese vehicles?

Where's the like button? We have too many people standing in the unemployment line wearing boots made in China , a shirt made in Indonesia , socks made in Vietnam and who knows where the pants an underwear came from ( due to bogus stamps ) and then wondering why your unemployed...

We didn't trade with the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

WHY are doing so much business with Communist China?

How come I can drive my wife's Sprinter over to WalMart or Target and load it full of stuff made in China, yet I cannot legally purchase a Cuban cigar, or even travel to Cuba for that matter?

With the economy what it is, and people needing jobs, my next vehicle will be American. I've owned Hondas and Subarus, and while they are good vehicles, I feel that the domestic manufacturers are now equally good if not better. So, I'm thinking that the wife's Honda will be replaced by a Chevy when the lease is up. And I'll keep running AMSOIL - made right here in Superior, Wisconsin!

Kinda an ironic statement on a site supporting an Indian pickup truck, eh?
