Curb weight is actual vehicle weight, unloaded (i.e. on a truck scale)
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is the maximum total weight capacity the vehicle can handle (i.e. curb weight plus, passengers, plus load). Beyond this weight you are overloading the axles, tires, etc.
The Mahindra wheelbase is short because they are using a common chassis for the 2-door, 4-door, and the SUV. It's cheaper to make one common frame than multiple chassis for wheelbase variations. I suspect the short design was intended for tight Indian streets.
