Default VW TDI is an Option, sort-of

Have a Jetta TDI and love it. An while a new VW TDI is on my backup list it's not a 4x4, not a truck. Is a fun car to drive. Mine is a 5-spd.

Recently test drove a 2010 manual and auto and while I have always purchased manuals the 6-spd auto in sport mode with manual shifting is unreal . . . great fun and power. On the down side the 2010 Jetta is heavier and a bit ugly compared to the 2001 . . . MPG is also down some. The '01 gets 44/45 city and 47/52 highway and it has 125k miles on it . . . '10 will never get those numbers. More weight, more EPA stuff, more HP = less MPG.

If the TR20 is not up to the quality level I'm hoping for and if Ford won't bring us a Ranger diesel (my 1st pick backup, 2nd pick is Tacoma diesel) , then my next vehicle could be another VW TDI. Do know the VW will be a great highway ride . . . but not to great for wood cutting/hunting/ get out-there rock crawling.
