I had a 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD and with all my offroad goodies it weighed around 5000lbs. At that weight it wasn't a dog, but it did not have the passing power my 2009 VW Jetta TDI has. That being said, I along with several others had our bones stock Liberty CRD's dynoed and they made around 350ft lbs of torque which was much more than jeep claimed at 295ft lbs. My Liberty consistently averaged 24mpg and I averaged about 27mpg on the freeway.
It does concern me a bit that they are trying to move a 5500lb SUV with an estimated 236ft lbs of torque. It would have to be a dog compared to other vehicles on the market. I think it would take 400ft lbs to move a vehicle that size with ease. That being said I think the TR20 would be the perfect sized vehicle for this engine.
