Mahindra has offered somewhat of an alternative with the TR-20/TR-40:
Basic small truck, diesel power, part-time 4wd, practical (and different) transportation.
I have compared the costs of a full-sized Diesel truck (as many of you have probably done, too) to the Mahndra and have discovered that, for what I want to do I can save upwards to $25,000 compared to, say a SuperDuty Ford Diesel.
I don't need to haul 11,000 pounds. I don't need heated leather seats and power everything. I need something that can pull my 2300-pound Samurai on a two-axle trailer to somewhere other than the poor-house. I want a truck that I might be able to mod for offroading. I want the Mahindra TR-series pickup truck!
Soon I will find out if this truck is the real deal I have been waiting for...

ack sounds like you and I are on the same page. Ever since I saw this truck I have been thinking that it is something that will allow me a new version of the Sami. I have owned a Sami or a Tracker in some form since I have been able to drive. I like that they have only the basics and are easy to work on. I am hoping that the Mahindra will be the next generation as I have given up on Suzuki ever bringing the cool stuff (Jimny) back to the US.
